This is a Ukiyo-e woodblock print from the Meiji period, a time when Japan was rapidly modernizing. The artwork is unique because it shows a mix of old and new styles: most figures wear traditional, highly detailed court robes, while the central man at the top is dressed in a Western-style military uniform. This type of art was often used to show the public important members of the Emperor's circle and to celebrate the country’s transition into a modern era. The vibrant colors and the presence of cranes in the background are symbols of status, longevity, and the new dawn of the Japanese empire
